Ephesians 6:18
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people."

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the National prayer breakfast here at Fort Hood. It was extremely fancy and everyone was on their best behavior. Command Teams from all over post showed up to support it and we had Christians, Jews, and Buddhist chaplains leading us in prayer for our country. But, the best part of the whole morning came from the simple life story of the speaker. He reflected on how every night his father would come and kneel at his and his brother's bed and pray for them. Not just a generic prayer, like the kind I pray with my children before they sleep, but I powerful prayer for their future. He prayed that his sons would be wise and compassionate. He prayed that his sons would follow God and not falter. He prayed for their safety and their hopes. He prayed for his sons. Even when he came in late from work he would pray. Even when things were not easy he prayed. Even when, I'm sure, he didn't feel like it he prayed. Now that the speaker's mother is sick with cancer his father kneels at the foot of her bed and prays for her in the same way. What a powerful example of what prayer should be. This man puts me to shame and challenges me. Prayer should be one of the easiest and most powerful things we do all day. Have you prayed today?
