1 Samuel 16:7
"The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

How to keep your heart healthy: 1. Avoid smoking and using tobacco products. 2. Be physically active every day. 3. Eat a heart-healthy diet. 4. Maintain a healthy weight. 5. Manage your blood pressure. 6. Control your total cholesterol. 7. Keep your blood sugar healthy. (According to the American Heart Association). I read this in a devotional the other day and wanted to share it with you.

Your heart weighs less than a pound and yet it beats 100,000 times a day and over 2.5 billion times in the average lifetime. Without your heart you would cease to exist pretty darn quickly. Yet we take it for granted every single day. We make choices that damage it and break it. We consistently ignore its warnings. Our heart is integral. It's no wonder that it has become the human understanding for the soul and our connection to the Divine. Without our soul, our faith, our relationship with God, we would perish rather quickly. Yet, we take it for granted, we make choices that damage and break it, and we constantly ignore its warnings. Just as we take care of our physical heart to keep on living a functional life we need to also maintain a lifestyle that keeps our spiritual heart healthy as well. I had a teacher in seminary who taught us that the physical heart and the spiritual heart go hand in hand. One keeps us moving in a direction, the other keeps us moving. Without the first you are pointless. Without the second you are worthless. Take care of your hearts! How's your heart this morning?
